Common questions.

What’s actually free?
The whole Subspace product: Agent Chat, supported CLI agents, Topics, Shared Memory, docs, files, browser, comments, HTML Artifacts, terminals, Git, and the Ship Loop. Subspace is free. Bring your own provider subscription or API access; any model or agent usage is billed separately by that provider.
Can I use my existing Claude Code or Codex subscription?
Yes. Subspace is designed to work with the provider access you already have. Sign in to supported agent CLIs as you normally would, then run them inside the workspace. Subspace itself is free; your provider continues to handle any subscription or usage charges.
What is a Topic?
A Topic is the durable home for one body of work. Create one instantly with Cmd+N, name it, and go. Every Topic is a Git worktree under the hood, so you can build features, fix bugs, do research, and create prototypes in parallel without conflicts. Its agent sessions, Shared Memory, docs, files, browser, comments, artifacts, terminals, and Git state all stay together.
Why use Subspace instead of talking to an agent directly?
A direct agent session is useful, but the surrounding work quickly spreads across dedicated agent apps, terminals, editors, browsers, notes, and Git tools. Subspace gives that entire workflow one home. Use Agent Chat or supported CLI agents, keep every working surface with its Topic, collaborate through source-linked comments and HTML Artifacts, and carry useful context between agents, models, and sessions with Shared Memory. You still choose the agent and approve the work; Subspace keeps everything around it legible.
Is my code sent to your servers?
Subspace does not upload your codebase to our servers. Your agents run locally in your terminal. To build Memory, Subspace uses each request/response pair to create a token-efficient observation through OpenAI. Memory can be turned off, or you can use your own OpenRouter or OpenAI API key for that processing.
What does Shared Memory remember?
Shared Memory captures useful context about the work: progress, decisions, blockers, and what remains open. It belongs to the Topic rather than one chat window, agent, or model, so every new session can continue from the same project context. It is built in—there is no separate memory skill or plugin to install and remember to invoke. You and the agent can search what Subspace remembers whenever you need to recover a past decision or its surrounding context.
Does it work with my existing setup?
Yes. Subspace runs supported CLI agents in real terminals, so you can keep using the provider access and agent configuration you already have.
When does Windows ship?
Windows is in active development — codename ballmer. The Mac app is shipping today; the Windows build is the next major platform on the roadmap. Get on the list and we’ll email you the day the beta opens.
